Lido Advisors Chief Compliance Office and General Counsel Jason P. Lee Named 2020 Leader in Law by Los Angeles Business Journal
Lido Advisors congratulates Senior Managing Director, General Counsel, and Chief Compliance Officer Jason P. Lee on being named by the Los Angeles Business Journal the 2020 Leader in Law for the Small Private Business category.
The award recognizes, “the accomplishments and significant role that in-house counsel plays in the success of a business enterprise… Candidates in each category are recognized for exceptional legal skill and achievement across the full spectrum of responsibility, exemplary leadership, and contributions to the Los Angeles community at large.”
At Lido Advisors, Lee’s role encompasses the firm’s overall administrative, operational, legal and regulatory functions. He has over 20 years of white collar and securities-related litigation, regulatory, and compliance experience in both government, private practice, and in-house settings.
Lee has dedicated his professional career to public service. As President (Chair) of the State Bar of California, he was instrumental in securing diversity and inclusion efforts in the agency’s core mission. Prior to his service at the State Bar, he served as Chair of the Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation, presiding over the body statutorily responsible for vetting and rating trial and appellate appointments, including those to the California Supreme Court.
While he served in several senior positions at the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement, he was a founding member of the agency’s Diversity Council and charged with increasing diversity and inclusion throughout the organization. At Lido Advisors, Lee has anchored the firm’s inaugural diversity and inclusion efforts, driving and creating its diversity mission, and promulgating several critical practices designed to achieve an environment that reflects the richness of our great state.
In his acceptance speech at Wednesday’s virtual awards ceremony, Lee reflected on his beginnings. “Recently, I was fortunate to participate in a panel with our community partner, College Track… The first question posed was: Who are you?
“I’m the son of immigrants. I entered school in my parent’s new country not able to speak a single word of English. I have been the beneficiary of mentors and sponsors who offered a hand and opportunity to someone who never met a lawyer until law school,” Lee said.
Lee has been recognized several times for his accomplishments. He has received the Securities and Exchange Commission’s highest award, Award for Excellence, and numerous Division of Enforcement Director Awards. In 2019, the Asian Pacific American Bar Association named him a “Trailblazer” for his work at the State Bar of California and for the legal profession.
